Dr David Staples is the Chief Executive of the United Grand Lodge of England (UGLE), the governing body of Freemasonry in England, Wales, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands.
David has been at the forefront of transforming the organisation for the modern age, charged with developing a professional, fit-for-purpose and efficient central headquarters in the heart of London.
“We are an organisation which is proud of the integrity of its members, the friendships and connections they will make, the good they do for the communities from which they are drawn and the fun we have along the journey.”
He first made headlines in the media at the beginning of 2018 when he spearheaded a nationwide campaign to challenge inaccurate and misleading information about Freemasonry. This was led by a personal letter by David, titled ‘Enough is Enough’, calling for an end to the ongoing misrepresentation of UGLE’s members.
David is also a Consultant Physician in Acute Internal Medicine and works one clinical session a week at Peterborough City Hospital. In addition, he works as an Associate Clinical Advisor to the Health Service and Parliamentary Ombudsman.
